Children’s Services Assistant/Library Aide (Part-time)

The Powers Memorial Library is seeking a creative, customer-service focused, team player for the position of Children’s Services Assistant/Library Aide.  The ideal candidate will enjoy storytelling and crafts, knowledgeable of children’s literature, have a genuine ability to relate to kids and their parents, enjoy working in a changing environment, and have strong computer and social media skills.

Nature of Work:

Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Children’s Services Assistant / Library Aide performs a variety of task to support the activities and operations of the library. The Children’s Services Assistant / Library Aide is responsible for maintaining collections of various reading, viewing, and listening materials, providing excellent customer service and performing library clerical duties. The Children’s Services Assistant / Library Aide shall perform accurate and friendly service at all times to patrons, as well as assisting in the opening and closing duties of the library. The Children’s Services Assistant / Library Aide will also be required to assist in the development, implementation and conducting children’s programs, displays and craft times.


  1. Prepares crafts, bulletin boards, and displays
  2. Assists with the Summer Reading program and story hour
  3. Assists in opening and closing procedures of the library.
  4. Is able to perform all duties and responsibilities of a library clerk
  5. Able to perform routine daily functions and coverage of the circulation desk and performing clerical work
  6. Possesses a working knowledge of all aspects of the library’s automated system
  7. Maintain a positive and welcoming demeanor in all situations
  8. Assists Library Director with promotion and advertisement of library services and programs
  9. Performs other duties as required.


  1. Ability to work in a team environment, as well as take the initiative and have the motivation to work on individual projects
  2. Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  3. Positive and friendly demeanor
  4. Accuracy in clerical skills
  5. Basic knowledge of computer operations and the ability to learn and operate library automated systems
  6. Ability to shelve, sort, shelf-read, accurately check-in and check-out library materials
  7. Able to promote the mission and purpose of the Powers Memorial Library
  8. Assist in the advertisement and conducting of monthly programs
